HGV class 2 driver jobs in Wiltshire

Rigid lorry work turns up in two industries at once. Wiltshire holds 1,250 employee jobs in freight transport by road and 2,500 in warehousing and storage.

The balance between those two counts says more about class 2 work in Wiltshire than either number on its own. Warehousing outweighs road freight here, which usually means more distribution running out of large sites.

Business counts are rounded one cell at a time, so the bands sit loosely against the total. 195 of them, 86.7%, employ under ten, below the usual share, so rigid work leans towards operators big enough for fixed rounds.

Of the freight transport by road employee jobs the 2024 survey splits by hours in Wiltshire, 350 are part time, 30.4% of the split. The middle across the South West is 24.4%, so Wiltshire sits above it, 5th of 14 areas on this measure. That is a high part-time share for road freight, which in an area this size usually reflects relief and seasonal rounds rather than a different kind of employer.

Two further counts round out the Wiltshire picture: 130 employee jobs in postal and courier activities, and 0.06% postal and courier activities, share of all employee jobs.

Measured on employee jobs in warehousing and storage, Wiltshire ranks 5th of the 15 areas in the South West. The middle across the South West is 1,500, against 2,500 in Wiltshire. Across the 153 areas in England the middle is 1,250. Next to Wiltshire in that order sit Somerset at 3,000 and Devon at 2,250.

On the separate business register count of freight transport by road workplaces employing 10 or more, Wiltshire ranks 5th of the 15 areas in the South West. The middle across the South West is 20, against 35 in Wiltshire. Across the 153 areas in England the middle is 15. Next to Wiltshire in that order sit Cornwall at 35 and South Gloucestershire at 30.
